A position is NEW when the filer reported zero shares in the previous quarter and a positive holding this quarter. New positions represent fresh investment theses — capital deployed behind a new idea rather than a follow-on to existing exposure.

How does HoldingsIntel rank new positions?

Accepted Answer

Default sort is by Conviction Score (0–100) so the highest-commitment new bets surface first. You can also sort by dollar value, portfolio weight, or filer AUM. Filtering by weight ≥1% finds positions where the fund deployed meaningful capital on the new idea.

Is a NEW position guaranteed to be a fresh thesis?

Accepted Answer

Mostly yes. Edge cases: a position can appear NEW after a CUSIP change (corporate action) where HoldingsIntel hasn't yet linked the old and new CUSIPs as aliases. We auto-detect these and reclassify when possible.
